Super Street Fighter II X Tournament
Hyper Street Fighter II - 15th Anniversary

It's finally Easter, and to boost our holiday spirits, we started off by arranging this year's very first Super Street Fighter II X (SSFIIX) tournament. SSFIIX - Grand Master Challenge, which launched in the arcades in March 94, is the 6th installment in the series, implementing a Super Gauge to introduce the new concept of Super Moves. No new characters were added from the predecessor, but other elements like overhead attacks, throw escape, and new and modified moves, made SSFIIX the King of fighting games. SSFIIX is also thought to be the most accuracy-demanding title among the whole series.

On Saturday 8th of April, 15 of the regular fighting gamers met up at Spiderman to battle it out. A 16 player Double Elimination tournament went smoothly, with few upsets, and after 2 1/2 hours a play, Chief Gutti was the one to come out on top. Although Ryu was heavily represented in this tournament, we still had the chance to witness some interesting play from characters such as Dee Jay, Chun Li, Guile, Sagat, Ken and Zangief. Before the tournament started, everyone got the chance to listen to some Remix Tracks of the background music, courtesy of the "Insanity DVD" series featuring "The Starting Over - Hyper Street Fighter II" Tournament DVD.
Top picture: On the right, Red Hawk coming 3rd using Ryu. On the left, you have Robbie3s with Guile, who also won the 3rd Strike tournament earlier this year. In the middle, winning his first tournament in 2006, is Chief Gutti.

Amazingly enough, 15 out of the 16 registered contestants met up in time for everything. Even though we were playing the PS2 version of Hyper Street Fighter II, no joypads were allowed. One match would consist of a first-to-three-rounds battle, and the CPII BMG was selected to maintain the nostalgic feeling from back in the days.

Dead Alchemist, being rather new to the series. A Master in Tekken using Bryan, but becoming better and better everyday at games like King of Fighters, Street Fighter II and Capcom VS SNK. Due to the non-existence of arcades in Norway, Dead Alchemist is among the unfortunates who missed out of the start of the Street Fighter era.
Street Fighter release date list:
Street Fighter - August 1987
Street Fighter II World Warriors - March 1991
Street Fighter II Dash - April 1992
Street Fighter II Dash Turbo - December 1992
Super Street Fighter II The New Challengers - October 1993
Super Street Fighter II Tournament Edition - October 1993
Super Street Fighter II X Grand Master Challenge - April 1994

Rising Uppercut, sitting left, showed a nice set of cross-over combos and corner traps, but came short when he had to face "The King of Fighting Games" JINsama, who has placed on top in many tournaments in a wide selection of games. JINsama has earlier won Virtua Fighter 4 tournaments, Nationals in Tekken 4, as well as gotten to the semi-finals in the EURO Tekken 4 competition in London in 2003. He has later won the Nationals in Tekken 5, something which led him to winning the Official Nordic Tekken 5 Tournament held in Stockholm, Sweden, a month later.
In the middle of the picture, wearing the white beenie/woolie hat, is L.O.T.S (Lord of the Strings). He was the top Norwegian Tekken Tag Tournament player together with Wallace, standing left of him.
L.O.T.S is also the lead guitarist in the Norwegian Progressive Metal band Circus Maximus. The band released the first album "The First Chapter" during Summer time last year, and are currently working on an album said to be made much heavier, apparantly to cater more towards the Asian metal market. I personally play some guitar myself, and I am not bullshitting when I am saying that L.O.T.S is, without a doubt, going to be world famous for his individual guitar skills as the years pass by.
